| Galesburg Community Chorus Starts 65th Season |
The Galesburg Community Chorus is proud to announce its 65th season.
The chorus is an amateur singing group that achieves a professional standard of performance, presenting a fall and spring concert each year as well as hosting a guest choir.
The season begins December 12, 2009 with a performance of Haydn's Mass in Time of War. The concert will also include various holiday selections and will feature The Carl Sandburg Children’s Chorus. The spring concert, A Night at the Opera, will be held May 22, 2010. The chorus will be joined by four professional opera singers for an evening of arias, duets, and choruses from well-known operas. This year's guest choir concert will be held on January 22, 2010 and will feature The Millikin University Choir, praised nationwide for the high quality of their performances.
The chorus is directed by Tim Pahel. Pahel is the Director of Choral and Vocal Activities at Monmouth College, where he directs the Monmouth Chorale and teaches music courses. The Community Chorus is accompanied by Amber Clark, a music professor at Knox College.
"I am excited about our 2009-2010 season," Pahel said. "We are going to sing really exceptional music, and the programs have an enormous amount of variety, so I’m sure they are going to be enjoyed by our audiences."
Rehearsals begin Monday, August 31, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. in Jay Rehearsal Hall on the Knox College Campus and continue Monday evenings from 7-9 p.m. The Chorus is open to everyone, and no audition is required.
Three entry-season passes are $30 for adults, and seniors' season passes are $24. Student tickets are free courtesy of Wells Fargo Bank. For more information, to contribute to the Community Chorus, or to order season passes, please contact the chorus office at 342-8143.
