Transparency in State Government Goes Online
A new web site strives for transparency in government by allowing taxpayers to access state government spending information.

State Rep. Mike Tryon (R-Crystal Lake) was one of the bill's sponsors. He says the Illinois Transparency and Accountability Portal will make the state's expenditures and employee pay data available through a single searchable portal.

"Now is the time for Illinoisans to reap the benefit of the investment that we've made in IT infrastructure and they will be able to sit at their desktop computer and their laptop computer at home and monitor the expenditures of state government," Tryon said. "This is, I think, Illinois setting the example for the rest of the country in how to be transparent."
