State Officials Urge Flu Preparedness
It sounds like simple common sense, but it's advice that can save you a lot of inconvenience -- stay home when you are sick, and wash your hands frequently.

That's the message the heads of two state departments brought to a Springfield elementary school. Dr. Damon Arnold, director of the Illinois Department of Public Health, and Chris Koch, superintendent of the Illinois State Board of Education, hope to head off a flu epidemic.

They say it's not too early to get your annual flu shot. But the seasonal flu shot will not help against H1N1, known as "swine flu." Arnold says a vaccine for that may be available in mid-October, and it will involve a series of two shots.
