Moffitt Bill to Help Ambulance Service Becomes Law
A local lawmaker has again had success in helping fire departments and ambulance services get the equipment they need to keep operating.

Governor Pat Quinn recently signed into law a bill that adds ambulance service equipment to another law crafted by State Representative Don Moffitt that's already in effect establishing a grant program for small fire-fighting equipment.

Moffitt says the new law helps provide a need for a group that needs the equipment.

"We have some volunteer, stand-alone ambulance services that are not-for-profit, and are not part of a fire department or district," Moffitt said. "Just to make sure they would be eligible for the grants -- that's what this legislation would do."

Moffitt says the purchase of communications and paging equipment, along with defibrillators, among other things, would qualify for such grants administered by the State Fire Marshall's office.

The Gilson Republican says he's pleased the Governor signed his bill into law.

It passed unanimously in both houses of the Illinois General Assembly, and State Senator Dale Risinger was the Chief Sponsor in the Illinois Senate.
