Knox County Fair Officially Underway
The oldest county fair in the state is officially underway.

Tuesday marks the first day of the five-day run of the 159th Knox County Fair, running through Saturday at the fairgrounds in Knoxville. Fair Board president Tom Collopy says truck and tractor pulls, harness racing, stock car racing, and of course the carnival rides and concessions are all a part of the fair as always.

But Collopy tells WGIL entertainment and other activities will be in the grandstand, too, there's one thing brand new in the grandstand this year. "A ranch rodeo, put on by a new group -- it's going to be a free grandstand which we've never ever done that before as long as I've been on the fair board, which is 10 years...it's armband evening," Collopy said, which is Wednesday night.

Collopy says the Fair Board thought that it would be a nice economical way to give both kids and their parents something to do on the same night.

Other events throughout fair week include the traditional livestock judging, and the annual Knox County "Be Real" Teen Idol competition -- preliminary rounds of which start tonight, with the finals on Saturday.
