State Fair Attendance Down Versus Last Year
Sunshine and pleasant temperatures over the weekend helped boost the Illinois State Fair attendance numbers, but the overall number's still down from last year. State fair manager Amy Bliefnick reports that the unofficial attendance was 655,000, down about 11 percent from last year. She points out that last year's fair had the benefit of perfect weather, and says this year's number is still higher than 2007.

Bliefnick says the admission fees hike of $2 brought the fair $1 million, although she's not saying whether the fair will break even. She says the term "break even" is a bad one. As of Friday, the aggregate attendance was down between 15-18 percent, so the good weekend weather made a big difference.
