Changes In Pick-up And Drop-off At Mable Woolsey
The parents who have been picking up or dropping off their children at Mable Woolsey Elementary School will be in for some changes later this week.

Mable Woolsey Elementary School Principal Larry Eastin and Knoxville School District Superintendent Larry Calrton met Monday night with members of the Knoxville City Council to discuss possible changes in the picking up or dropping off process.

Eastin says currently, parents are parking on both sides of Pleasant Avenue or dropping off their kids at the corners of Jackson and Pleasant. He says he is worried about the safety of the children who have to navigate their way through the traffic from both directions before they get into the school.

Eastin tells WGIL he thinks the group came up with an option to protect the students.

"We're just going to have the parents drop off on Pleasant Avenue and Jackson Street will no longer be the way to drop off students. All car riders will drop off in front and the students will walk around by a sidewalk to the playground."

Eastin says a letter will be going home Tuesday with the students to inform their parents of the changes.

He says safety of the students is the number one concern and the changes to the entire process are needed because of the construction to expand the school that is currently going on, which should continue until the end of the year.

The changes will become effective this Friday.
