Lane Evans Now in Assisted Living Facility
SILVIS, Ill. (AP) -- Former Congressman Lane Evans is far from the corridors of power these days.

He is now a resident of the Lighthouse in Silvis, an assisted living facility.

But in a recent interview with the Moline Dispatch and The Rock island Argus, the once-powerful Democrat's smile made it clear that he doesn't intend to surrender his spirit to a body betrayed by the ravages of Parkinson's disease and, more recently, a mind afflicted by Lewy Body Dementia. That disorder affects his cognitive skills and attention span.

He is genuinely glad to see people, as if muscle memory brings him back to what he enjoyed most throughout his career.

Sometimes, Evans' words and thoughts spill out like clear water. Other times, the message becomes murky. Even then, he seems acutely aware of the fences he can't climb over.
