Hundreds Apply for U of I Trustee Positions
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) -- The job doesn't pay a dime, but everyone from an employee of a Champaign bar to a retired veterinarian has applied to become a University of Illinois trustee.

To be precise, 233 people have sent applications to Gov. Pat Quinn since he started looking for new members for the nine-member board in the wake of the university's admissions scandal.

The governor released the names to The (Champaign) News-Gazette.

The list includes retiring state Rep. Bill Black of Danville and News-Gazette sports writer Fred Kroner. WGN radio's Andrea Darlas name was initially on there, too. But she says she isn't a candidate and didn't send an application.

Quinn appointed two trustees Wednesday. Neither had applied.
