| Search Warrants Net Suspect and Alleged Drugs |
POSTED 3:58pm 8/27/09 Two warrants recently executed in Galesburg have netted police a local man and nearly 60 pounds of an illegal substance.
Galesburg Police reports indicate earlier this week, they obtained a search warrant to search the residence at 108 Blaine Ave for a suspect. Police executed that search warrant just after 8 Wednesday morning. Police say they announced their presence at the home and after no answer, the locked outer door was breached. Police then had to breach another locked interior door. Upon entering the residence, officials located the suspect they were looking for, 35-year old Rodney Nicholson and another woman who was with him at the time.
After securing the suspects, police say they saw a large bag containing several smaller bags of cannabis in plain view. A digital scale and more baggies were allegedly seen in the kitchen area of the home. Police then had to go get a warrant to search the house for cannabis, paraphernalia or currency related to the sale of the drug. Later that morning, that warrant was executed.
Police say the large plastic bag was seized allegedly contained 35 individually wrapped bags of cannabis with a total weight of 55.5 grams. The scale and more bags were also removed from the scene.
Officers say they spoke with a tenant at that address who says Nicholson allegedly had been staying there for about a month and was there to hide from police. Officials say they had been to the Blaine property at least twice in the past to look for Nicholson, but the tenant refused police entry to the residence. She allegedly told authorities the suspect was even home on one of their previous visits. The tenant faces a charge of aiding and concealing a fugitive.
Nicholson faces charges including Possession of 30-500 grams of cannabis and Possession With Intent to Deliver.
Nicholson now awaits a future court date while in the Knox County Jail. |
