Decatur Gearing Up for Farm Progress Show
"Progress City USA" is the name for the acreage Richland Community College owns, and which Farm Progress Companies use for their biennial visit to Decatur.

"It actually has redirected where the college is going in the future," says Greg Florian, vice president of finance and administration. He says building Progress City has spurred Richland to intensify its agribusiness offerings. Florian says Richland was notified in the fall of 2004 it would be hosting the 2005 show. "We moved 150,000 cubic yards of dirt, we've installed over five miles of roadway, 17 miles of wire, sewers, water - we built the city out here."

Florian says the show allows Richland to show off, among other things, its own wind turbine. Florian hopes more than 200,000 people attend the Farm Progress Show September 1-3.

The show alternates between Decatur and Boone, Iowa .
