Take Precautions in Hot Weather; Heat Advisory Issued for Galesburg Area
CHICAGO (AP) -- With temperatures forecast to be above 90 degrees this weekend, the American Red Cross warns Illinoisans to be careful in the heat.

The Red Cross says it's important to prevent heat-related illnesses like heat stroke or heat exhaustion. They say the very young and elderly are at the greatest risk.

Red Cross health expert Joel Schilling says symptoms include nausea, dizziness, flushed or pale skin, heavy sweating and headaches. He advises those suffering from the symptoms "be moved to a cool place, given cool water to drink and ice packs or cool wet cloths should be applied to the skin."

The Red Cross also advises avoiding strenuous activity, slowing down and staying indoors. They also recommend wearing light clothing and drinking water.

The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for the Galesburg area from 1:00 Saturday afternoon until 7:00 Sunday night.
