Purple Heart Recipients Could Get Special Motorcycle Plates
Starting in January, recipients of the Purple Heart medal will be able to apply for Purple Heart motorcycle license plates. Purple Heart plates already exist for cars and trucks.

Gov. Pat Quinn has signed a bill into law that allows the new plates. Once the Secretary of State's office receives 800 applications for the plates, the plates will be made. State Sen. Larry Bomke (R-Springfield) and State Rep. Raymond Poe (R-Springfield), sponsors of the measure, say it made sense to offer such a plate to motorcyclists, since car and truck owners can buy one. They say plate fees cover the cost of the plates, with no tax money used.
