Galesburg School Board Votes on Master Facilities Plan Monday Night
The Galesburg School Board will finally vote tonight on the much-talked about plan to make $110 million in building improvements over the next 10 years.

The District-205 Board tabled the plan dubbed "Operation Re-Build/Achieve" months ago so that more research could be done on parts of the plan. Since then, some of the first-year items have been either revised or moved around.

District-205 Assistant Superintendent Guy Cahill says one of the parts of the prpposal, to rebuild or rehab Silas Willard Elementary School, will be left up to study by possibly two architect firms before a final decision is made.

"One that would study the cost of building a new building, one that would study the cost of repairing the existing building, both having their respective biases for repair or replacement," Cahill said. "So you get a true competing interest. (We will) engage them in January, so we will do our homework to come up with those names, engage them in January, have them report out in May."

And then, Cahill says, the Board will be asked to make a decision after that, which could lead to a possible election ballot question asking the public what they think.

The Galesburg School Board also will hear about the district's test scores when they convene at 7pm Monday at Lincoln School.
