Health Group Offers Safety Tips for Heat
CHICAGO (AP) -- The Health Care Council of Illinois says residents need to take precautions as temperatures heat up this week across much of the state.

The group says if air conditioning isn't available, open windows on opposite sides of the house for cross ventilation.

Also, keep close tabs on those who are most vulnerable, including children and the elderly.

The National Weather Service has issued an extreme heat advisory for portions of central and southern Illinois through Thursday evening.

Temperatures in the 90s are expected in the afternoons and early evenings this week producing heat indices of between 100 and 110 degrees. Heat indices could top 110 on Tuesday.

The advisory includes more than 40 counties.
