Amtrak Ridership Up, Including Routes Stopping in Galesburg
Ridership on Amtrak routes through Illinois are up. Numbers from the first 10 months of Amtrak's fiscal year show that nearly 100,000 more people have been riding Amtrak routes that cross the state.

Specifically, the route ridership increases are:

Chicago-St. Louis, 50,515 (up 11 percent)

Chicago-Milwaukee 38,000 (up 6.3 percent)

Chicago-Quincy 7,499 (up 4 percent -- route stops in Galesburg)

Chicago-Carbondale 8,410 (up 3 percent).

Amtrak spokesman Marc Magliari says the increased ridership started with high gas prices. He says more Illinoisans have figured out that while they can’t predict gas prices, they can predict Amtrak ticket costs. He thinks Amtrak could see record-breaking ridership numbers when its fiscal year ends on September 30th.
