District 205 Master Facilities Plan Approved
Galesburg School District Superintendent Gene Denisar essentially threw down an ultimatum to the Galesburg School Board regarding its 20-year Master Facilities Plan.

"I think it's important that the board take a stand, and either vote it up or vote it down, and tell us to go back to the drawing board again," Denisar said. "But if you keep dragging your feet on it, you're effectively going to kill it."

Denisar told the board Monday night that since much of the plan to renovate and rebuild facilities throughout District-205 will be funded with proceeds from the proposed one-percent increase in the Knox County sales tax that voters will be asked to consider in November, turning down the Master Facilities Plan would essentially make the sales tax increase moot.

The District-205 board did vote 4-3 to approve the Master Facilties Plan, but not before members like Gloria Osborn voted no.

"It's something administration should use as a blueprint," Osborn said. "But, I, as a board member...don't feel I can approve it and commit. I know that future board members can change it. But they're going to have to change what we just committed."

Other board members expressed reservations about moving kindergarten classes at Silas Willard to the old Giant Foods store, while others were concerned about converting Lincoln School partially back to classrooms, after turning them several years ago into administrative offices.
