Fewer Politicians in Twilight Parade
This year's Twilight Parade will last about an hour and a half, now the Illinois State Fair is limiting the number of politician entries. The parade usually runs about three hours.

But Jeff Squibb, spokesman for the Illinois Department of Agriculture, which runs the fair, says this change doesn’t target politicians. He says fair officials simply want parade entries that offer "entertainment value," rather then offering just a group of people walking along. He also says it's a public safety issue, because a long parade blocks emergency vehicles near the parade route, and puts a strain on fairground safety staff.

Constitutional officers and their opponents and Springfield-area politicians are allowed in. Other politicians will have to march in one of the political party entries.
