Knox County Fair Queen Winners All Repeat Entrants -- STORY, PHOTOS, AND INTERVIEW AUDIO HERE
A Galesburg girl has participated a number of times over the years in the Knox County Fair pageants, but she still says it's a shock that she finally won.

12-year old Amanda Mines of Galesburg was named Junior Miss Knox County Fair at the annual pageant held Sunday night at the Orpheum Theatre. She was quite emotional as she was crowned by the 2008 and 2009 winners of the same pageant.

Mines says she competed three-times in the Little Miss pageant, and it was her second time on the Junior Miss pageant, and tells WGIL she didn't get discouraged after not winning before.

"My friends from the pageant, they just said 'We believe in you, and even if you don't get anything, you're still a queen in my heart,'" Mines said. "That made me really happy, and say 'I can do this.'"

17-year old Amelia Rogers of Knoxville is the new Miss Knox County Fair. Rogers beat out seven other competitors to get the title.

But if you got the feeling no one might have been more shocked than Rogers herself, you'd be right. That's because Rogers tells WGIL the on-stage interview question she was posed didn't go the way she thought it might.

"I thought I messed it up," Rogers said. "I couldn't think of the right wording or anything. Whatever popped into my mind, I said."

The on-stage question had to do with whether the contestants thought young people were more concerned about social issues, or status issues.

But Rogers tried out for the pageant last year, and tells WGIL she otherwise thought she did better this year than last.

"I went over the questions that they asked me last year," Rogers said, "and not to say 'um' a whole lot, eye contact, all that stuff."

Rogers replaces Lacie Courson, and will be joined by seven-year-old Natalie Nelson of Galesburg as Little Miss Knox County Fair.
