FIRST ON WGIL: Stacy Peterson Search Enters Knox County
FIRST REPORTED 6:00am 8/11/10 Just when you thought the search for a missing Chicago-area woman couldn't get any closer than Peoria, it has.

The Illinois State Police confirms that a search was conducted in Knox County a week ago Tuesday for Stacy Peterson -- the Bolingbrook woman missing since 2007 and believed to be dead. Peterson's husband, former police sergeant Drew Peterson, has long been suspected in the woman's death.

State Police Sergeant Tom Burek tells WGIL the search was close to Galesburg.

"For now, I just allude to the fact that it was close to -- very close -- to Galesburg," Burek said.

Burek says police were acting on a tip generated following the June search of an area outside of Peoria that didn't produce results. Burek tells WGIL this search went much the same way.

"There was nothing that we found of interest during that search at all," Burek said.

Burek would not say if the land was public or private, but does say the Illinois Department of Natural Resources and Galesburg Police aided in the search, and says cooperation with both agencies was perfect.

The search only came to light within the past couple days after it was reported by a Chicago crime website.

Drew Peterson is jailed in Will County awaiting trial for the death of his third wife, Kathleen Savio, in 2004.
