City Council to Discuss Hiring Another Consultant Monday Night
The Galesburg City Council will consider Monday night using yet another consultant -- this one, though, could net the city some serious money for some downtown transportation improvements.

Aldermen will consider spending $10,000 with Springfield-based Massie Massie and Associates to help them develop a proposed intermodal transportation facility in Colton Park that would be added on to the Galesburg Amtrak Depot, which then could lead to the applying of federal economic stimulus dollars under the "TIGER Two" program to help pay for it.

City Manager Dane Bragg tells the "WGIL Morning News" there's already some money secured for the project.

"We have about $500,000 secured through (federal) and toll revenue credits for the expansion," Bragg said. "Right now, what we're just looking at is enclosing the south porch area, which would expand the waiting room area, and it would allow Burlington Trailways to have their bus ticketing counter there at the depot."

Bragg says the larger vision is to be able to build a facility that would be able to locate car rental and city busses there, too.

The Galesburg City Council will meet starting at 5:30pm Monday for the first of a number of planned pre-budgeting work sessions, then hold their regular meeting at 6:30pm -- all in council chambers at Galesburg City Hall.
