Abingdon/Avon/Bushnell-Prairie City Consolidation Vote Delayed Longer
There's a bit of a hang-up in the efforts to determine whether or not to ask voters if the Abingdon, Avon, and Bushnell-Prairie City School Districts should consolidate.

District-217 Board Member Sherry Lomax told her colleagues Wednesday night the Committee of Ten, of which she's a part, had initially thought that they could get the question to voters in next April's election, but later determined all their work wouldn't be done.

So, Lomax says the committee will likely have to move that question to the next available election, which isn't when the committee thought it was.

"We were planning on November of 2011," Lomax said. "Then we got the news that there is no election in November of 2011. So, it looks like April [2012] is the first time we can have [a vote]."

Lomax later corrected herself to say the election is in March 2012, not April.

Lomax says the Avon school board was expected to discuss the issue Wednesday night as well. Sub-committees for the Committee of Ten, at least many of them, will be holding meetings Thursday, with a full Committee meeting later in the month.

The District-217 Board Wednesday night approved the re-hiring of three employees along with bus drivers responsible for special education transportation routes -- restoring some of the positions cut due to budget concerns several months ago.

The District's budget will be voted on next month; meantime, it's available for viewing in the Superintendent's office at Hedding Grade School.
