Hare Touts Jobs Plan in Springfield
U.S. Congressman Phil Hare (D-Rock Island) wants people in his district to hear his version of what's in the new federal jobs bill. Hare, in Springfield to tout the plan largely to teachers, says the $26 billion program will allow 5,600 Illinois teachers to keep their jobs. He says that doesn't count the other public service workers -- like police and firefighters -- who will be helped with this funding.

Hare says that within 43 days, Illinois stands to reap $415 million to help keep teachers on the job. He says 354 of those teachers are in his own district.

As for paying for the program, Hare says it makes sense to close a tax loophole for multi-national corporations that do business outside the U.S. Republicans say that'll mean companies will cut jobs. Hare says another funding source, cutting food stamp money in the future, needs to be reversed, and says congress can find another revenue source if it needs to.
