Soldier Initially Believed to Be Dead is Alive
PARK FOREST, Ill. (AP) -- After initially believing a relative had died from injuries suffered from an explosion in Afghanistan, a suburban Chicago family now says the man is alive.

The family of Sgt. 1st Class Edgar Roberts spent Wednesday in mourning after being told by his wife that the soldier was dead. It was determined Thursday that Roberts was in the intensive care unit of the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Md.

A friend had suggested the family contact the hospital.

A Pentagon spokesman late Thursday said there is no record of Roberts' death. A hospital administrator confirmed Roberts is alive but would not give details of his condition.

The 39-year-old Roberts was serving in Afghanistan with the 810th Engineer Company, Georgia National Guard.
