Quinn Opens 2010 Illinois State Fair
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) -- Gov. Pat Quinn has cut the ribbon to officially open the 157th Illinois State Fair.

Quinn said Friday that the fair is valuable to the state as entertainment and a promotion for Illinois agriculture.

The fair will run for 10 days with entertainment that includes concerts by Lady Antebellum, Cheap Trick, Selena Gomez and Darius Rucker. A Kiss tribute band will also appear, so officials are holding a Kiss costume contest.

With everyone struggling to make ends meet, the fair is offering more freebies.

A free performance of the Broadway show "Million Dollar Quartet" is scheduled for Monday. And free samples of Illinois food will be available every day at the Agriculture Department tent.

Admission is $5 for adults and $2 for children under 13.
