Durbin Released from Hospital After Surgery
CHICAGO (AP) -- Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin of Illinois has been released from the hospital after having a stomach tumor removed.

Durbin spokesman Joe Shoemaker says the 65-year-old senator was discharged from the University of Chicago Medical Center Friday evening.

Durbin had the surgery on Thursday.

Shoemaker says Durbin expects to resume a light schedule in a few days and a full schedule next week.

A preliminary biopsy showed no signs of cancer although the type of tumor he had removed can be malignant. Shoemaker says a pathologist will examine the tumor and results will likely be known next week.

Durbin discovered the growth several weeks ago, during a routine checkup in Washington.

The tumor wasn't present in the lining cells of Durbin's stomach.
