Schock Tours BNSF Galesburg Yard
Republican Congressman Aaron Schock says he now has a better understanding of some legislation he might act on, and of his role on a house committee, now that he's been in Galesburg and toured the city's largest employer.

Schock was in Galesburg Friday at the invitation of State Representative Don Moffitt to tour the Burlington Northern Santa Fe rail yards and hump tower.

Schock tells WGIL not only was the trip a learning experience for him, it was down right impressive.

"It's a pretty interesting process to watch 'the hump' -- which really serves as the natural gravitational push -- to guide these boxcars on to scores of different tracks, where they build and assemble the next new trains, and head them off on to different directions around the country," Schock said.

Schock also met with Galesburg City leaders while at the hump yard, along with officials from the National Railroad Hall of Fame, all of whom he says he pledged to help in any way he could.

Schock's district covers part of Knox County, and he sits on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, along with his next-door colleague, 17th District Democrat Phil Hare.
