"Gathering of the Guard" Goes Pink
You might say Gary Schrock will do anything for the cause.

Schrock is the Illinois state captain for the Patriot Guard Riders, the organizers of the annual "Gathering of the Guard" which finished up Sunday at the Knox County Fairgrounds. Schrock, in a way, hasn't been his usual self. He's been wearing pink instead of his trademark black throughout the entire gathering. His Mohawk was even pink.

But why did he do it? To raise money for the Patriot Guard. Schrock tells WGIL he didn't mind...really.

"I made the comment during the opening ceremonies that my wife always says 'If you don't want Gary to do something, don't dare him to do it, because he'll do it,'" Schrock said. "All I did was literally put a price on what I would do. I made the comment that I shouldn't be doing that, because I know these people around here are willing to come up and cough up the money and go out and dig and scratch and find to do it. But it's for a great cause. It's able for us to help a lot of these soldiers."

Schrock says his challenge ended up raising over $3,000 -- a goal he was worried he wouldn't reach after posting it some weeks ago on the Patriot Guard's website.

The Patriot Guard is the group of motorcycle riders you've seen at a number of ceremonies involving current or fallen local soldiers. He says attendance has been great even despite some potentially severe weather Friday night.
