Callling All Husbands, Calling All Hogs
The Hog Calling and Husband Calling contests are tradition at the Illinois State Fair, and this year's versions brought lots of loud squeals and screams!

Several contestants in the hog calling contest started out soft, but then launched into ear piercing pig squeals. Others were more demure. Winning second place for his hog calling was Nathan Broadus of Raymond. But the winner, originally from Rock Island and now living in Des Moines, is Kyle Barton, who had never been in this contest before.

The husband calling brought a few snickers as Terri Dixon-Hnizdo pulled a pink feather boa out of her backpack and tried to sweet-call her husband into showing up. She was the second place winner. But this year's winner has something different: a little opera signing. Nancy Allison of Moro is a member of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, and her call for her husband, Mark, won the top prize.
