IL Crops Keep Doing Well
Last week's brutal heat and humidity helped improve the Illinois crop progress.

Corn is 51 percent dented, compared to 5 percent at this time last year and the 29 percent five-year average. Soybeans are now 85 percent along in setting pods, well ahead of the 79 percent five-year average. Sorghum is 31 percent coloring, compared to 2 percent last year and the 29 percent five-year average. Alfalfa is 57 percent along on the third cut, compared to 42 percent last year and the 63 percent five-year average.

USDA Crop statistician Brad Schwab says while we humans disliked last week's weather, it was good for crop growth and maturity. Schwab says the expected cooler temperatures and lower humidity this week will be ideal for the corn crop.
