Quinn Defends DOC Chief
Gov. Pat Quinn continues to stand behind his director of corrections, even after mistakes were made in an early release program.

Quinn says Director Michael Randle made a mistake in letting some prisoners out of jail early in an attempt to save money, but says Randle is an "expert" in his field.

"The man made a mistake," Quinn said. "He is a nationally recognized expert and he's done a number off good things with respect to running our prisons."

Quinn says Randle is the one making change happen at prisons, including implementing recommendations made by the author of the report on the early release program.

State Sen. Bill Brady (R-Bloomington), the Republican candidate for governor, and other Republican lawmakers have called on Quinn to fire Randle over the mishandled early release program.
