Farmers to Polish Image With Consumers
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) -- Agriculture groups representing corn, soybean and livestock farmers are launching a new campaign they hope will spruce up farming's public image.

The groups include the Illinois Beef Association, Illinois Corn Marketing Board, Illinois Soybean Association and others. They are collectively calling themselves Illinois Farmers.

The groups plan to launch their effort Tuesday at the Illinois State Fair. They'll also use social media and some advertising.

The campaign is based on research indicating consumers like farmers but have concerns about food safety and agricultural practices.

Soybean association chairman Ron Moore says consumers wrongly assume most farms are no longer the family operations they once would have trusted.
