Giannoulias Launches Jobs Platform at State Fair
Two of Illinois' top Democrats used their party's day at the State Fair to launch a sixteen-city tour to talk about jobs. Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias is running for U. S. Senate against U. S. Rep. Mark Kirk (R-Highland Park). Giannoulias is attacking Kirk's voting record on jobs, including Kirk's reversal of his intention to vote for additional federal money which, Giannoulias says, can help save six thousand teaching jobs in Illinois.

Giannoulias says Kirk's alleged lying about his military record and other parts of his biography are one thing, but Giannoulias says Kirk's votes during ten years in Congress are not in dispute. Giannoulias, joined by his campaign manager, U. S. Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) at a Springfield news conference Wednesday, will spend the rest of the week in Central and Southern Illinois talking about jobs.

Durbin - who says he is fine after last week's surgery to remove a tumor from his stomach - says while he expects voters to ask valid questions about ethics and honesty in these days after the Rod Blagojevich verdict, most voters seem to be more concerned about the economy of their own households.
