Meet the New IL FFA President
Once again, there's a statewide leader named Edgar. It's John Edgar, president of the Illinois FFA.

The recent graduate of Trico High School in Southern Illinois is beginning a busy year, connecting with the roughly 300 FFA chapters in the state. Edgar notes the organization a few years ago changed its name from "Future Farmers of America" to simply "FFA" to reflect the fact it prepares young people with skills -- including public speaking -- which can be used in almost any walk of life.

Edgar says after his year as state FFA president, he will enter Southern Illinois University to major in plant and soil science and minor in ag-business economics.

As for those blue jackets, in case you are wondering, Edgar says there has been some thought given to a lightweight uniform for summer weather -- but the longtime trademark is too much of a tradition to change.
