Dems Day at State Fair: Distance from Blago
Distance -- That's what Democrats are in favor of during Governor's Day at the Illinois State Fair. That's distance between them and former Gov. Rod Blagojevich, who has been convicted on one count of lying to the FBI -- a felony -- in the criminal trial against him.

Governor's Day began with the Democratic County Chairmen's breakfast offsite, where Democrats tried to drive the point home that they initiated impeachment proceedings, meaning they were willing to kick out one of their own.

Illinois House Speaker Mike Madigan (D-Chicago) repeatedly said that he, Senate President John Cullerton (D-Chicago) and rank-and-file Democrats were the ones who impeached Blagojevich. He says that will be what voters remember this fall, and not whether the Blagojevich scandal tainted incumbent lawmakers and the rest of the party.

Otherwise, Madigan has chosen, like many other Democrats, to share no words of wisdom on the conviction or hung jury on the 23 other counts.
