District 202 Looks at Transportation Upgrades
Members of the Knoxville school board discussed ways to upgrade District 202's transportation system Wednesday night.

Superintendent Stephen Wilder wants to make the system more efficient, hopefully saving the districting money.

Wilder and Transportation Director Chuck Hillery have researched software programs that help put together and track bus routes.

Wilder says, however, one program stuck out above the others.

"One of the differences between the three programs is that Transfinder also offered a program called 'Service Log,' that logs all of the service maintenance, all of the work that we do to our buses," Wilder said.

Wilder says the service log would be very beneficial to maintaining the buses and addressing problems before they become serious and expensive.

Board members took no action, but were asked to consider the idea of purchasing a similar program, and also possibly purchasing newer buses in the district's fleet, as some are more than 10 years old.
