GOP Uses State Fair to Celebrate
For a party which holds no statewide offices and neither side of the General Assembly, Illinois Republicans were about to mount quite a bit of momentum on their day at the Illinois State Fair Thursday. Political watchers believe it was the first time in memory that their rally drew more people than the Democrats' rally.

It was a day for both gubernatorial candidate State Sen. Bill Brady (R-Bloomington) and for challengers such as Cedra Crenshaw, a State Senate candidate. Crenshaw told of grandmothers giving her money for radio spots and holding signs to protest petition challenges.

One comment from the stage drew a protest from Democrats. Former Republican gubernatorial candidate and event co-emcee Dan Proft said, "Getting a lecture from (state treasurer and U. S Senate candidate) Ali Giannoulas about honesty in government is like getting a lecture from Drew Peterson on domestic violence." Sheila Simon, the Democrats' nominee for lieutenant governor, called a news conference about two hours later to say domestic violence is not a joking matter.
