Excelon Brings Quad Cities Back Online
CORDOVA, Ill. (AP) -- Exelon has put Unit 2 of its Quad Cities nuclear generating station back online after replacing electrical equipment that caused its shutdown.

One of two reactor recirculation water pumps, which balance water flow through the reactor, tripped Tuesday. Officials didn't give a reason for the glitch.

Quad Cities Unit 1 continued to operate at full power, and officials said taking Unit 2 offline had no impact on Exelon customers.

Exelon vice president Randy Gideon said Friday that while the unit was removed from service during a time of peak demand, it allowed the utility to repair equipment for the unit's continued safe operation.

The Quad Cities power plant is located on 765 acres along the Mississippi River, and according to Exelon, provides electricity to about 1.5 million customers.
