A Look into History in Galesburg
Galesburg's annual Heritage Days festival kicked off Friday.

The event includes re-enactments from the civil war and camp settings from the 1800s.

Organizer Glenn Busse tells WGIL, the experience is a fun one, but there is also a lot to learn.

"History is really just a story and we all have a story, and in this case Galesburg is really blessed in the fact that we have two stories that are going on. We have the rendezvous story, the pre-1840s situation, how people lived the frontier life situation, and then we have the civil war and the whole re-enactments of battles that's all part of that situation."

Area school children will take some lessons away from Heritage Days. A number of area schools visited Heritage Days for some lessons Friday.

The festival takes place at Lake Story in Galesburg through Sunday.
