Congressman Urges Better Trade with Korea
The Fortune 100 company in Downtown Peoria does business globally. In fact, more than half of Caterpillar's sales are outside U. S. borders. The company, and the Peoria Area Chamber of Commerce, recently hosted the South Korean ambassador to the U. S. as part of a drive to pass a Korea-U. S. Free Trade Agreement.

U.S. Representative Aaron Schock says these deals should not be political. The only way, Schock says, for President Obama to expand exports to the extent he wants is to get the agreements with South Korea , Colombia and Panama passed. Schock says they would get bipartisan support.

"Fortunately for us, Caterpillar is headquartered in Peoria," says Schock. "70 percent of their customers are in other countries. Because we only have 5 percent of the world's population, it makes sense for them to want to get to the other 95 percent to buy their goods. Likewise for farmers."

Schock says labor interests are helping stall the free trade efforts he spent the day promoting in Peoria.
