Green Party Gov Candidate Wants More Recognition
The Green Party candidate for governor of Illinois says he has no baggage -- except for the momentum to beat Republican Bill Brady in November.

Rich Whitney, who received 11 percent of the vote four years ago, told statehouse reporters Monday he should be able to appeal to supporters of incumbent Democratic Gov. Pat Quinn and to those who consider themselves "Eisenhower Republicans." He says the far-right conservatives who would support Brady -- the state senator from Bloomington -- are not going to vote Green anyway.

Whitney says Quinn is a nice guy who has done a good job neither as governor nor campaigner. He says Quinn has peaked and has not been able to follow through on his basic ideas.

Joining Whitney in Springfield were Laird and Robin Monahan, brothers in their late 60s on a cross-country walk to promote the abolition of "corporate personhood" -- that is, the right to free political speech and spending by a corporation.
