Congressman Comments on Tea Party Impact
The Tea Party movement is making an impact in this year's elections, says U.S. Representative John Shimkus. In discussing that a Tea Party endorsed candidate may well have beaten an incumbent Republican in Alaska in a U.S. Senate primary race, Shimkus says it's clear that endorsements by the Tea Party and by former Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin make a difference at the polls.

Depending on final results in Alaska, four traditional Republicans may have now lost elections to Tea Party endorsed candidates.

Shimkus also thinks this election season will be brutal, since the national jobless rate worsened last month, and the home sales numbers dropped. He thinks that means that Democratic policies are not helping the economy, and hopes that will push voters to elect Republicans. Shimkus believes that could mean that the Republicans will win the majority in the U.S. House.
