Insurance Costs Rise for Knox County
Knox County is looking for more affordable health insurance.

Premium costs are quickly rising according to county board member Wayne Saline, chairman of the county Finance committee.

"It was brought to our attention, we thought we were going to get a 20 percent increase possibly in our premiums, now we're looking at a 30 percent increase. It has to do with the insurance companies trying to get ahead on the "Obama-care." So that's why these rates are coming up. I think it's only fair that we go out and solicit bids and see what we have."

The county has decided to put also put property, liability, and vehicle insurances cost out for bid, but says the coverage will remain the same.

According to board member Paul Stewart, the county spends $1.2 million of tax payer money for benefits of county employees.
