Brady Won't Say Whether He'd Cut Pay Raises He Opposes
The Republican candidate for governor is making a campaign issue out of raises Gov. Pat Quinn gave to his staffers, but he won't promise to roll back the raises if he's elected.

If State Sen. Bill Brady (R-Bloomington) wins, he'll hire staffers for the governor's office, many of whom will have the same job titles and duties as current staffers. But Brady, when asked, would not promise to roll back salaries for the people he hires for those positions to what they were before the raises that he finds objectionable.

"We're gonna look at the staffing levels, we’re gonna look at the bureaucracy, and we're gonna evaluate, but we cannot afford to give out pay raises until we meet the obligations we have when it comes to our unpaid bills," he said.

Quinn awarded pay raises to 35 staffers in his office. He says in some cases they were a result of promotions or new or increased duties, and that the overall budget for the governor's office was reduced.
