Manufacturers Support Brady
The Republican candidate for governor is promising a "stable tax environment" to help Illinois manufacturers.

State Sen. Bill Brady (R-Bloomington) Monday picked up the endorsement of the Illinois Manufacturers Association, which is buying into Brady's plan for less regulation and cheaper costs for workers' compensation.

Brady vowed to oppose changing Illinois' flat income tax to a progressive tax -- something which would require a constitutional amendment, a step supported by Gov. Pat Quinn.

"We need to make sure that people like Gov. Quinn and others don't change Illinois' tax structure to a graduated tax structure," Brady said at a steel processing plant in Burbank. "A fair flat tax needs to continue to be the way we operate in Illinois."

Brady promised a variety of tax cuts, tax breaks and tax credits aimed at businesses, including a tax credit of $3,750 over two years for every new job businesses create. The measure in place now, supported by Quinn, is $2,100 per job, but is limited to companies employing 50 or fewer people. Quinn says allowing businesses of any size to claim the credit means Illinois taxpayers will be subsidizing big companies such as Wal Mart, which will create jobs here even without the benefit.
