Replacing Galesburg's City Manager
Galesburg City Manager Dane Bragg is on his way out.

Bragg's last day will be August 20th, as he has taken a position with the Chicago suburb of Buffalo Grove.

In the meantime, the city council is looking an interim replacement. During a special closed door meeting Tuesday night, the council was scheduled to take a vote to change the city ordinance to allowing the council to appoint a manager pro tem.

That measure, however, was not acted upon. Meaning the current ordinance, that the city's public works director would temporarily fill the position, could still apply.

Mayor Sal Garza says he doesn't know why the council did not act on the measure.

"I'm not sure because I excused myself from the executive session. We were just getting up to that so I am going to have to have a debriefing from Alderman Lummis, because that's what we were set to do."

Garza was referring to Deputy Mayor Mike Lummis, who said after the meeting the council "really didn't need to," vote on the measure. Lummis says all options are still on the table.

Garza says other options include identifying candidates from the community and also utilizing the Illinois City Managers Association that might be able to suggest a retired city manager.

The council did pass a pass a resolution to allow the mayor to hire a company, Voorhees Associates, to begin searching for Bragg's permanent replacement.
