Galesburg Shooting Suspect in Court
A Galesburg man accused of having a gun in his possession that was used to shoot into a van near Knox College will be going to prison.

21year old Xavier Parker pleaded guilty in Knox County Circuit Court Wednesday morning to a Class two Felony charge of Possession of a Firearm by a Felon.

In exchange, a separate felony charge of Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon was dropped.

Knox County Circuit Judge James Stewart accepted the plea, and a negotiated sentence of 6 years in prison.

Police arrested Parker in mid June. They say he and Anthony Alfaro were walking in the area of Knox College in late May when they got into a confrontation with some people in a van.

Prosecutors say at one point, Alfaro allegedly opened fire on the van after getting the gun from Parker.

Parker must only serve half of the prison sentence before he can be released, despite several prior felony convictions in 2008 and 2009.

A preliminary hearing for Alfaro is scheduled for next Tuesday.
