Blick Gives Galesburg Lasting Memories and Gift
A Galesburg based art supply business that's been around for a century has unveiled the biggest way yet they're celebrating the milestone.

Blick Art Materials has unveiled a large mural that's being worked on now and will be displayed outside the Discovery Depot Children's Museum, that company vice president John Polillo says is a gift to the community for all they support they've been given since being formed here in 1910.

Polillo tells WGIL's "Galesburg Live" the idea of a mural came about so that such a gift would be around for awhile.

"We wanted something that was lasting, we didn't want to frankly just write a big check to a local charity, because that is like a one time thing. So we're an art company so why not a piece of art? That evolved into a mural, something outside, something everybody can see."

A Joliet based organization is creating the mural entitled "First a Dream", the design of which was unveiled earlier this week. Polillo says putting up the mural outside Discovery Depot was ideal because everyone can see it, especially Seminary Street visitors and those passing through town on Amtrak.

Blick employs around 500 people between its store and warehouse in Galesburg.

The company has 30 stores nationwide, including Chicago, and Polillo says that will soon grow to 31.
