Hare Promotes Manufacturing Jobs
Congressman Phil Hare visited Galesburg Thursday to tout a piece of legislation he says will create thousands of jobs.

Hare says he can no longer stomach watching manufacturing jobs be out-sourced to foreign countries while Americans suffer the consequences.

That is why he has created legislation giving tax credits to companies that decide to manufacture, not just assemble, equipment for alternative energy systems.

"It could be a machine shop with six people that are working. They could easily retool to make some of these things," Hare said. "We're going back to a workforce -- this city and this county has a great workforce on their hands. It's not a question of the workers; it's a matter of giving the manufacturer the equipment. That's the purpose of giving them the tax credit. Once they start making these, they will be sustainable jobs. It's not just a one-year grant."

Hare is also supporting a "Make it in America" push by Democrats to bring back American manufacturing jobs.

He gave a press conference at Gates Manufacturing in Galesburg, saying it was a prime example of a company that could benefit from tax credits and put people to work if they decided to invest in the tools to make alternative energy equipment.
