District 205 Building Committee Hears About Facilities Plan Changes
FIRST REPORTED 6:00am 8/6/10 The Galesburg School Board's Building Committee has heard what changes have been made to the district's 20-year Master Facilities Plan ahead of a final vote on the plan Monday night.

The committee Thursday heard what had been hashed out during a Master Facilities Plan Committee meeting Tuesday -- that any planned renovations to Silas Willard Elementary School would be moved to year three of the plan, Kindergarten students at Silas would be moved to the old Giant Food store, special education classes in the basement at Silas would be moved up to the first floor, and moving the start of renovation work to Lombard Middle School up to the first year of the plan, among other things.

Board member Barry Swanson participated in the meeting by phone, and wondered how the public should take all this.

"We need to have a pretty clear...time line about how these changes are going to impact each student that it will impact," Swanson said. "Here's were kids will go this time, here's what kids will be doing this time, here's the benefits that we realize because of that, because of these changes."

The District is also moving away from the proposed use of artificial turf on Van Dyke Field and instead looking into more durable forms of natural grass, and is calling a new athletic fieldhouse a "multi-purpose academic and athletic facility" that will be used as classroom space while other Galesburg High School renovations are made.
